The annual membership renewals take place from Friday, March 1, 2024, your renewal invoice has been sent, should you not receive it please notify us. Payment details are on the invoice. ACEN Partnering with Circular Times

ACEN is partnering with Circular Times, a project launched by Circular Economy Switzerland in partnership with the Center for Green Economy in Taipei, Circular Economy Leadership Canada, and Global Business Inroads in Bangalore. The project aims to share information about companies, research institutions and organisations working in the circular economy around the world. These news articles are produced by the Swiss news agency Café Europe and published on economico.pro and on all platforms that wish to use them. A specialised newsletter - Circular Times – summarises these news articles once a month.

If you have any newsworthy information about your company, research institution or organisation, do not hesitate to send it to us. The information can be about any milestone you are proud of – new projects, new partners, important news, etc. Importantly, the news needs to be shared in ‘real-time’.

Community Circular Economy Outreach by Kenyan ACEN Chapter

In February, the Kenyan chapter of ACEN organised a community outreach with a group of community health volunteers at the St. Teresa's Catholic church. The event was led by Rose Kerubo; a chapter member who also runs an educational initiative for students called Eco school. In the sessions Zablon Wanyama Wekesa, the regional coordinator of ACEN focused on exploring circular economy business models through game based learning. We are looking forward to future collaboration to do more of such work.

Promotion of Circular Economy in the Textile and Garment Sector

This month, the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) has kicked off an exciting new five-year multinational project, Promotion of circular economy in the textile and garment sector, as its executing agency in South Africa. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project aims to introduce a circular transition of the upstream (resource and chemical use) and downstream (reuse, recycling, conversion) of the textile and garment sector in Lesotho, Madagascar, and South Africa.

CSA Website Launch

Circular South Africa (CSA) has been in the making for a while and what would a platform be without a dedicated space for knowledge and collaboration to take place? The CSA team has worked hard on the forthcoming website and we invite you to take part during the CSA website launch. We are excited to have partnered with Fetola to share their insights on circular finances in the entrepreneurial space during the website launch. The launch will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 15:00 CAT.

JUST2CE Workshops

JUST2CE will come to an end in August 2024 and ACEN will have close-off workshops in April in Cape Town and Johannesburg to engage around the project’s outcomes of which the Decision-Support Tool is part of. The Decision-Support Tool has been created to explore global supply chains. Circular Food Systems For Rwanda

Circular Food Systems for Rwanda is now accepting applications from agri-food SMEs committed to adopting and scaling circular practices. Successful applicants will gain unique access to specialised expertise that is difficult to obtain or expensive in Rwanda. SMEs are paired with a technical assistance provider from our network according to their specific need or goals.  Candidates must be registered and operational in Rwanda and have a clear focus on agri-food. Applications are open until Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Results of The Nairobi 2023 Journalistic Competition on Circular Economy

As part of the launch of the Africa 21 Journalist Network’s new cycle of activities on the circular economy, a journalistic competition was organised to allow journalists to show their skills on Circular Economy Storytelling.

Circular Transition Indicators v4.0 – Metrics for Business, by Business

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) would like to invite you to join their online session where they launch the Circular Transition Indicators (CTI), a robust metrics framework positioned to be the universal language of circular performance and accountability. Scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 8:00 CET, this event will explore key metrics and use cases developed in collaboration with leading companies in the CTI Fashion Initiative. ACEN has taken on an advisory role and is supporting the development of CTI. 

Annual Africa Supply Chain in Action (ASCA)

The Africa Supply Chain in Action is the continent’s premier annual online conference and networking event for procurement and supply chain professionals. The fourth edition of this annual event is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 2024 and features  A Made in Africa section as well. The ASCA gathers practitioners from across Africa, regardless of their expertise, to exchange knowledge and connect. This year, Bezawit Eshetu, the Country Representative of the African Circular Economy Network will be giving the keynote speech. Tickets for attendance are free.  

ACEN Foundation joins The Climate and Clean Air Coalition

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, the United Nations Environment Programme, on behalf of the Partners of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) welcomed the ACEN Foundation as a full Non-State partner in the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). This means that the ACEN Foundation is now part of a group of volunteer organisations working to accelerate mitigation actions in the main Short-lived climate pollutants sectors through a combination of capacity building, finance, and technology support. The aim of The CCAC’s work is to ensure that the world is staying within the Paris Agreement target for temperature increase, improving crop yield and reducing the health and economic impact of air pollution.

ECOS Increases Global Reach with New Africa Office

The Environmental Coalition on Standards (ECOS), an environmental NGO, has opened a new office in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on the African region. To address environmental issues unconstrained by borders, we need global efforts that ensure the highest ambition in developing policies, standards, and laws – something that ECOS has been progressively working towards. With this new Africa office, ECOS aims to increase their international reach and drive positive environmental change worldwide, collaborating more closely with like-minded organisations.

Discover The I4n Award: Accelerate your Nature-Positive Solution!

The INNOVATE 4 NATURE AWARD is an award competition designed with the aim to recognise and spotlight high-impact, nature-positive solutions that truly benefit a regenerative economy and combine innovation with conservation, restoration and regeneration

Participants could win up to CHF 100,000 in prize money across 4 key areas. Moreover, I4N Grants access to training or mentoring to particularly promising nature-positive solution providers. Participants would gain visibility at the Innovate 4 Nature events and connect with potential clients, investors and peers.

The I4N AWARD application period runs from 12 February to 5 April 2024. All interested parties  are encouraged to submit their applications via the award website. 

How a Circular Economy Can Save African Cities’ from “Choking” on Solid Waste

Solid waste pollution and poorly managed landfills are major challenges in most parts of Africa. In a short conversation on radio with Lester Kiewit, listen to Chris Whyte, Director of  African Circular Economy Network as he breaks down the challenge of pilling solid waste and the role of circular economy solving this situation. He also touches on the key role of waste pickers and the future of landfills in Africa.

Financing Needs Assessment Survey

PREVENT Waste Alliance is currently conducting a study to understand the financing needs of circular economy organisations. They would like to invite the input of circular economy organisations to help them gain a better understanding of the challenges and needs in securing funding. Based on these insights, they will develop guidelines and resources that will benefit companies and organisations in the circular economy.

Outreach Communautaire sur L'Économie Circulaire par le Chapitre Kenyan d'ACEN

En Février, le chapitre Kenyan d'ACEN a organisé une sensibilisation communautaire avec un groupe de volontaires de la santé communautaire à l'église catholique St. Teresa. L'événement a été dirigé par Rose Kerubo, membre du chapitre, qui dirige également une initiative éducative pour les étudiants appelée Eco school. Au cours des sessions, Zablon Wanyama Wekesa, le coordinateur régional d'ACEN, s'est concentré sur l'exploration des modèles économiques circulaires par le biais de l'apprentissage par le jeu. Nous attendons avec impatience une collaboration future pour faire davantage de travaux de ce genre.

Promotion de L'Économie Circulaire dans le Secteur Textile et de L'habillement

Ce mois-ci, le National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) a lancé un excitant nouveau projet multinational de cinq ans, Promotion de l'économie circulaire dans le secteur textile et de l'habillement, en tant qu'organisme d'exécution en Afrique du Sud. Financé par le Global Environment Facility (GEF), le projet vise à introduire une transition circulaire en amont (utilisation des ressources et des produits chimiques) et en aval (réutilisation, recyclage, conversion) du secteur textile et de l'habillement au Lesotho, à Madagascar et en Afrique du Sud.

Lancement du Site Web de L'CSA

Circular South Africa est en préparation depuis un certain temps et qu'est-ce qu'une plateforme sans un espace dédié à la connaissance et à la collaboration ? L'équipe de CSA a travaillé dur sur le site web à venir et nous vous invitons à participer lors du lancement du site web de CSA. Nous sommes ravis de nous être associés à Fetola pour partager leurs idées sur les finances circulaires dans l'espace entrepreneurial lors du lancement du site web. Le lancement aura lieu le Jeudi, Mars 14, 2024 à 15h00 CAT.

Ateliers JUST2CE

JUST2CE se terminera en Août 2024 et ACEN organisera des ateliers de clôture en avril au Cap et à Johannesburg pour discuter des résultats du projet, dont fait partie l'outil d'aide à la décision. L'outil d'aide à la décision a été créé pour explorer les chaînes d'approvisionnement mondiales. Systèmes Alimentaires Circulaires pour le Rwanda

Les systèmes alimentaires circulaires pour le Rwanda acceptent désormais les candidatures des PME agroalimentaires engagées à adopter et à développer des pratiques circulaires. Les candidats retenus auront un accès unique à une expertise spécialisée difficile à obtenir ou coûteuse au Rwanda. Les PME sont associées à un prestataire d'assistance technique de notre réseau en fonction de leurs besoins ou objectifs spécifiques. Les candidats doivent être enregistrés et opérationnels au Rwanda et avoir un focus clair sur l'agroalimentaire. Les candidatures sont ouvertes jusqu'au Samedi, Mars 23, 2024.

Résultats du Concours Journalistique de Nairobi 2023 sur L'Économie Circulaire

Dans le cadre du lancement du nouveau cycle d'activités du réseau de journalistes Africa 21 sur l'économie circulaire, un concours journalistique a été organisé pour permettre aux journalistes de montrer leurs compétences en matière de narration sur l'économie circulaire.

Indicateurs de Transition Circulaire V4.0 – Mesures pour les Entreprises, par les Entreprises

Le World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) souhaite vous inviter à participer à sa session en ligne où il lance les Indicateurs de Transition Circulaire (CTI), un cadre robuste de mesures positionné comme le langage universel de la performance et de la responsabilité circulaires. La ACEN Fondation Rejoint la Climate & Clean Air Coalition

Le Jeudi, Février 1, 2024, le Programme des Nations unies pour l'environnement, au nom des partenaires de la Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), a accueilli la Fondation ACEN en tant que partenaire non étatique à part entière dans la Climate & Clean Air Coalition(CCAC). Cela signifie que la Fondation ACEN fait désormais partie d'un groupe d'organisations bénévoles travaillant à accélérer les actions d'atténuation dans les principaux secteurs de polluants climatiques à vie courte grâce à une combinaison de renforcement des capacités, de financement et de soutien technologique. L'objectif du travail de la CCAC est de veiller à ce que le monde reste dans les limites fixées par l'Accord de Paris en matière d'augmentation de la température, d'amélioration du rendement des cultures et de réduction de l'impact sanitaire et économique de la pollution de l'air.

ECOS Élargit sa Portée Mondiale avec un Nouveau Bureau en Afrique

L'Environmental Coalition on Standards (ECOS), une ONG environnementale, a ouvert un nouveau bureau à Nairobi, au Kenya, axé sur la région africaine. Pour résoudre les problèmes environnementaux sans se limiter aux frontières, nous avons besoin d'efforts mondiaux qui garantissent l'ambition la plus élevée dans l'élaboration de politiques, de normes et de lois - quelque chose qu'ECOS travaille progressivement à réaliser. Avec ce nouveau bureau en Afrique, ECOS vise à accroître sa portée internationale et à promouvoir un changement environnemental positif dans le monde entier, en collaborant plus étroitement avec des organisations aux vues similaires.

Comment une Économie Circulaire Peut-Elle Sauver les Villes Africaines De L' Étouffement par les Déchets Solides ?

La pollution par les déchets solides et les décharges mal gérées sont des défis majeurs dans la plupart des régions d'Afrique. Dans une courte conversation à la radio avec Lester Kiewit, écoutez Chris Whyte, directeur du Réseau africain de l'économie circulaire, expliquer le défi de l'accumulation de déchets solides et le rôle de l'économie circulaire dans la résolution de cette situation. PREVENT Waste Alliance mène actuellement une étude pour comprendre les besoins de financement des organisations d'économie circulaire. Ils aimeraient inviter les organisations d'économie circulaire à partager leurs commentaires pour mieux comprendre les défis et besoins en matière de financement. Sur la base de ces informations, ils développeront des lignes directrices et des ressources qui bénéficieront aux entreprises et organisations impliquées dans l'économie circulaire.
